We realized that WiFi QR code decoding is a task that doesn't require any external processing or data storage. Everything can be computed locally in your browser using JavaScript.
This means you maintain 100% control over your data. No data is sent to our servers, no tracking pixels, no analytics cookies—just pure, fast, private decoding.
Most smartphones can scan QR codes natively, but laptops and desktop PCs have no built-in scanner. WifiQRScan fills that gap — entirely in your browser.
Take a screenshot on your laptop (Win + Shift + S on Windows, Cmd + Shift + 4 on Mac), or transfer a photo from your phone. You can also paste a copied image directly with Ctrl+V / Cmd+V.
Drag the image onto the tool, click Upload, paste from clipboard, or enter a remote image URL. The decoder accepts PNG, JPG, WebP, and GIF formats.
WifiQRScan instantly displays the network name (SSID), password, and security type. Click the copy icon next to any field and paste it into your WiFi settings.
WiFi QR codes encode your network credentials — the same password you use to protect your home or office network. Most online QR decoders upload your image to a remote server, which means your credentials could be logged, stored, or exposed in a breach.
WifiQRScan takes a different approach: the entire decoding pipeline runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. The ZXing library — originally a Google project for mobile barcode scanning — has been compiled to WebAssembly and runs natively in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge without any server involvement.
This means speed (no network round-trips), privacy (nothing leaves your device), and reliability (works on slow connections and partially offline). It also means you can audit the code yourself — the project is open source on GitHub.
