How to Scan a WiFi QR Code with Your Camera

The live scanner continuously analyses the camera feed and identifies QR codes in real time — no shutter button needed. Hold the code in frame and the result appears automatically.

  1. 1

    Allow Camera Access

Click "Start Scanner" and approve the camera permission prompt from your browser. The camera feed appears immediately. All video processing stays on your device.

  2. 2

Hold the QR Code in Frame

Point your camera at the WiFi QR code. Keep it within the scanning window and hold steady. Good lighting helps — avoid glare from laminated surfaces.

  3. 3

    Result Appears Automatically

When a QR code is detected, the scanner pauses and displays the decoded content. For WiFi codes it shows the network name, password, and security type.

  4. 4

    Connect or Copy

On mobile devices, tap "Connect to WiFi" to hand the credentials directly to your system settings. On desktop, copy the password and enter it in your network manager.

Troubleshooting Camera Scanning

Camera permission was denied

Open your browser's site settings (padlock icon in the address bar), find Camera, and switch it to Allow. Then reload the page.

The QR code is not detected

Ensure the entire code is within the frame, the surface is not at a severe angle, and there is sufficient light. Move closer to increase apparent code size.

The live feed is blurry

On phones, tap the screen to manually focus. On laptops, clean the webcam lens. Some older webcams have fixed-focus lenses that struggle at close range.

No camera appears in the selector

Another app may be holding the camera exclusively. Close video-conferencing software, other browser tabs with camera access, or virtual webcam applications.

Camera Privacy & Security

The scanner uses the browser's getUserMedia API to access your camera. Video frames are decoded in-browser using the ZXing-wasm and jsQR libraries. At no point are frames or decoded data transmitted to any server.

  • Camera feed is never recorded or stored
  • Decoded credentials are shown only in your browser tab
  • No analytics events are fired on successful scans
  • Camera access is released when you close the scanner
